Bountiful Balearic Islands Sailing Itinerary

PrivatSea’s Senior Captain, Stuart Andrews, shares a two-week Balearic Islands Sailing Itinerary around Spain that reveals the natural and culinary wonders of this breath-taking country.

Renowned for its friendly people, great food, stunning art and architecture, and some of the finest beaches in the world, Spain and its islands have something for everyone. From the Pyrenees Mountains in the north to the world-famous beaches of Formentera in the south, from the Catalonia region in the east to the wild Atlantic coast of Andalucía to the west, we’ll give you a glimpse of the glorious Balearic Islands. The yacht’s very discreet, highly trained crew is dedicated to making this two-week voyage an unforgettable experience.

Your Spain and Balearic Islands Sailing Itinerary

Day 1 – Arrival in Roses

Your PrivatSea adventure starts at Girona Airport. A 20-minute flight by helicopter takes you to your home for the next 14 days. After the Captain and Chief Stewardess welcome, you’ll find your luggage unpacked in your Stateroom, accompanied by personalised stationery, handmade chocolates, bathrobes embroidered with your initials and your own pager for calling the crew at any time.

The yacht is anchored in Montjoi Bay, a calm, protected area just west of Cap de Norfeu, near the medieval village of Roses, where the sun-drenched hills meet the crystal-clear waters of the Mediterranean. A candlelit dinner of freshly prepared tapas will be served, courtesy of our talented chefs, with an exclusive performance by a world-famous flamenco dance group.

DAY 2 – Roses to Barcelona

You’ll wake to find us underway and heading for Barcelona. Take breakfast by the pool on the boat deck, enjoy fresh fruits from around the world, homemade empanadas and a fine selection of teas and coffees. Should you wish to have a rejuvenating yoga session or a massage before breakfast, our Second Stewardess, an experienced and fully qualified wellness coach, will be happy to oblige. Otherwise, sit back and enjoy the morning sunshine.

We enter OneOcean Port Vell mid-morning, immersing in the hustle and bustle of the city that never sleeps. Manuel, a foremost guide in Barcelona, will accompany you with priority passes to avoid queues. Whether you’re at the breath taking Sagrada Família Cathedral, the Casa Batlló, Casa Milà or strolling through Park Güell, you will marvel at the work of Antoni Gaudí, Barcelona’s famous architect.

Lunch will be served on the private terrace at the Mirabé, a restaurant with stunning views over the city. Upon your return, supper will be in the privacy of the sundeck, where you’ll be treated to carabineros (jumbo red shrimp), caldereta de langosta (lobster stew) and prawn croquettes presented with a selection of Verdejo and Rioja, traditional Spanish wines, finished off with tarta de Santiago (Galician almond tart).

DAY 3 – Barcelona

Spain is the largest exporter of wine in the world, so your Balearic Islands Sailing Itinerary would not be complete without a private wine tour. At a family-run “bodega”, closed to the public, you’ll see its 300-year-old farmhouse and the daily work of the vineyard, followed by a wine-tasting accompanied by local gourmet dishes. Once back on board, we depart at midnight for our overnight crossing to Menorca.

DAY 4 – Menorca

We’ll anchor in Fornells Bay, a place of calm with one of the most picturesque fishing villages in the Balearic Islands.

Enjoy a morning of fun and relaxation. Three of our deck crew are qualified in every water sport imaginable, so you’ll be in safe hands whether hoverboarding, jetsurfing or paddleboarding.

Lunch will be on board our custom-built floating Beach Club, set up between the yacht and the beach. Fully equipped with a Teppanyaki grill, sun loungers, a dining table for 12, a bar, a built-in Jacuzzi and even a small bathroom, fine freedom and privacy to indulge in this beautiful bay.

This evening, the village of Fornells holds its Fiesta di Sant Antoni, celebrating its patron saint. Your dining experience will include VIP seats overlooking the proceedings, with crew on hand to ensure you have all you need.

DAY 5 – Mahon

We slip quietly out of Fornells at dawn for a short cruise to the enchanted island of Es Grau. With deserted white beaches, hidden coves, and shallow waters it’s perfect for a morning swim or exploring the sea caves by canoe.

An extravaganza of freshly caught lobster, sardines, tuna, sea bass and swordfish, all selected directly from the local fishermen, is served on the swim platform for lunch.

Late afternoon, we head for Mahon, the largest town in Menorca, famous for its gin and thought to be the birthplace of mayonnaise. As we glide into Port de Mao, the second largest natural harbour in the world, we’ll see twinkling candles illuminating the waterfront restaurants and the floodlit walls of the cathedral shimmering across the water.

After a wander through the cobbled alleys of the old town and a pitstop at Armeria Escudero, you will dine at Passio Mediterrania.

DAY 8 – Palma

The yacht’s BLU-EYZ helicopter will lift off at 0700 hours to view Mallorca from the sky. You’ll fly over mountains via Soller before landing at our helipad in Deià, a magical hillside village famous for its creatives. Enjoy a relaxing poolside breakfast with impeccable views and the scent of pine in the air.

After strolling through the village BLU-EYZ returns you to the yacht, already underway. There’s just enough time for some light refreshments before our entry into the Port of Palma de Mallorca.

At the quayside, your guide Manuel is back with his brother Sabil who will guide you for the rest of the day. There is a rich diversity of cultures in this amazing city: listen to the choir in Palma’s Le Seu cathedral, explore Bellver Castle, or wander the cobbles of Plaza Mayor, the heart and soul of Palma.

Supper will be at Il Paradiso on the terrace overlooking the Bay at Cala Mayor.

DAY 9 – Palma to Ibiza

Enjoy a morning browsing the local markets. After lunch, we depart for Ibiza, our favourite island. This leg of our Balearic Islands Sailing Itinerary will take about four hours. As the island looms over the horizon, the sun sets behind the hills creating a layered montage of headlands that change colour with every glance.

We anchor just west of Cabo Llibrell where the cliffs meet the calm waters. A peaceful evening swim, a lazy paddleboard to the shore and a candlelit dinner by the pool finish this perfect day.

DAY 6 – Son Saura

This morning, a small private tour of Mahon begins with the cathedral and finishes with a visit to the famous 200-year-old Xoriguer Gin Distillery where you’ll sample Menorca’s finest.

Back on board for a light lunch, we sail for a couple of hours to the beach at Son Saura, where you’ll find all you require for an afternoon of relaxation and swimming in the crystal-clear waters.

Supper will be a 10-course tapas gourmet feast served around the fire pit on the pool deck. For one night only, the deck crew will dress in Spanish national costume.

DAY 7 – Mallorca

You will awake at Cabrera, one of the Balearics’ most noted marine parks. After a light breakfast, you will board a submarine for a 40m dive to explore the vast array of underwater life. Visibility is 20m-30m, so you will see turtles, rays, barracuda, moray, sponges, corals, groupers, goatfish and sunfish in all their glory. The submarine is a private experience for two, plus the pilot. When you’re not under the water, you can fill your day mastering our water toys or simply laze by the pool.

We set sail an hour before sunset, continuing our Balearic Islands Sailing Itinerary toward Es Trenc, a beach of pine trees and white sand.

Supper will be served on our floating Beach Club, anchored in the secluded cove.

DAY 12 – Portinatx

An adventurous day awaits. BLU-EYZ will lift from the helideck at 0900 hours, set to land in a forest high up in the mountains. Four-wheel-drives then take you to the Valley of the Horses, a sanctuary for wild horses in a hidden canyon in the Es Murta nature park. You’ll spend the day on horseback seeing the real untouched Ibiza.

While you have been exploring, the yacht has re-positioned in the protected bay of Cala Portinatx. The tender will be waiting to take you aboard, where the masseuse will be ready in our Massage and Aromatherapy Spa to soothe away those aches from a wonderful day’s riding.

Dinner will be on the sundeck overlooking the bay with an assortment of grilled razor clams, ceviche and pulpo a la Galega (Galician-style octopus) accompanied by the finest Wine, Pedro Ximénez, and finished off with crema Catalana and strawberry tartare with orange-scented honey.

DAY 13 – Valencia

As the sun rises, we enter the canal and prepare for docking in Valencia. Steeped in history and science, this city has avant-garde buildings alongside remains dating back to 138 BC. Valencia is full of life and welcoming to all who visit.

After breakfast, we will take you to the celebrated Central Market with the best in seasonal and local produce. Through your translator, you can order anything as you wander, we will arrange to have it delivered anywhere in the world within 24 hours.

For lunch, we take BLU-EYZ towards the mountains to dine on your own private beach, enjoy waterfalls and the hot springs of the Blue Lagoon. After a country feast of meats, smoked cheeses, chorizo and jamón Ibérico, you can swim in the Bridal Veil waterfalls, explore the caves in the nearby gorge or relax on the beach.

Returning in the late afternoon, enjoy a relaxing cocktail on the sundeck followed by dinner in Valencia at Llar Roman. Some say it serves the finest paella in Spain and it’s certainly the best the crew has tasted!

DAY 14 – Ambolo

It’s your last day of our Balearic Islands Sailing Itinerary, but we prefer to think of it as a temporary departure until we see you again. We head out for a morning cruise along the coast, while you relax and reflect on your unforgettable journey.

As we drop anchor in the sheltered cove of Ambolo, your crew will give a video presentation featuring all the highlights of the past two weeks, including the people, food, adventures, scenery, and, most important of all, you.

Our sincere and heartfelt thanks for giving us, your crew, the opportunity to show you the finest of Spain and its wonderful people. We’ll be here next year for your next PrivatSea adventure.

DAY 10 – Ibiza

Today is Party Day, a necessity for a Balearic Islands Sailing Itinerary, and less than an hour’s cruising brings us to the bay of Cala Jondal. We have reserved the best anchorage and the table at the Blue Marlin Club, renowned for its vibrant atmosphere, top global guest DJs, fresh lobster and langoustines, and the finest vintage rosé champagne.

We’ll continue the party back on board this afternoon. On the boat deck, world-class jugglers, fire-eaters, magicians and mime artists will be performing, including a Cirque du Soleil-style finale with four artists flying through the air in a dazzling aerial display from lines running from the top mast directly down to your tables.

It’s Friday night in Ibiza Town and the remainder of the evening can be spent dancing at one of the world-renowned superclubs, with a late supper at Cipriani, or winding down in a small taverna in the old town.

DAY 11 – Formentera

By the time you awake, the yacht will have dropped anchor in the protected waters of Formentera, considered by many to be the best beach in the world. The golden white sand and beautiful crystal-blue sea are illuminated by the early morning sun.

Breakfast is served on the beach underneath the sun awnings. Be warmed by the sun with the sea lapping at your feet.

After a memorable day at the beach, and with the sun setting behind the pinnacles of Es Vedra, we arrange a culinary experience like no other with all the flavours of Formentera plated by the world-renowned Can Dani restaurant.
